Malaysian father in Sweden child abuse case to be released today

The Tourism Malaysia director who was found guilty of beating his children in Sweden is expected to be freed today, reports Utusan Malaysia.
The release of Azizul Raheem Awalluddin (pic), who is based in Stockholm, came after he had completed his three-month sentence.
His wife, Shalwati Norshal, however, will only be freed in three months time, the Malay daily said.
"His return to Malaysia will be arranged by the relevant authority. I believe everything will run smoothly with representatives from the family waiting for his arrival," he said.
On March 28, the Swedish court sentenced Azizul and Shalwati to imprisonment for 10 months and 14 months respectively, while also ordering them to pay damages to their children.
Utusan Malaysia reported that the courts reduced their sentences and ordered the couple to serve only one-third of their original jail term.
Shalwati, 46, has only served three months out of her six-month jail sentence, the Malay daily added.
On February 10, Shalwati and Azizul, 38, were charged with multiple counts of gross violation of a child's integrity, by hitting and abusing their four children.
The alleged offences took place in the family's home in SpÄnga, a Stockholm suburb, between September 15, 2010, and December 17, 2013. Both were arrested on December 18, 2013.
The court had ordered Shalwati and Azizul to pay their children 67,200 SEK (RM33,900) and 36,400 SEK (RM18,362) respectively.
