Najib wants MH17 dead back before Raya

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak says he wants Malaysian citizens killed in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 back home by Hari Raya.

"We want the victims to be brought back before Hari Raya.

"Those who have been identified will be brought back by the Malaysian government so that they can be laid to rest on Malaysian soil," he said during a buka puasa event in Kuala Lumpur tonight.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri is expected to fall on July 28.

Flight MH17 was believed to have been shot down over territories controlled by Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine.

Najib (left) also weighed in on the report that the dead bodies were being tampered with by unidentified men.

"We cannot allow a situation where the dead can be taken by anyone and placed at unknown location," he said.

Body-snatching

Najib's remarks came just as reports emerged that unidentified men were moving the dead without authorisation.

More recent reports by the Associated Press quote Ukraine's Emergency Ministry as saying that the pro-Russia separatists had "forced" emergency workers to hand over 196 bodies that were already retrieved.

Kiev claims that the bodies were placed on refrigreated trains bound to Ilovaysk, a separatist-held city.

The Ukraine government wants the bodies to be brought to Khakiv, a government-held city.

Malaysia sent a team of forensic specialists to assist in the identifying and recovery of the 44 Malaysians onboard but the team has not had access to the site.

The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe's special monitoring mission (SMM) dispatched to the site report of "experts" placing remains in "professional body bags".

However, the SMM said that the identity of these "experts" are unknown.

The site is 500 kilometres from Kiev and about 50 kilometres from the Russian border.

Condemning is not enough

Meanwhile, the PM said the international community cannot only condemn the incident but must also take concrete action against the perpetrators for downing Flight MH17.

He reiterated that Malaysia want justice against those responsible but stopped short from naming names.

"Malaysians must show that we cannot accept this sort of action and we demand whoever is responsible for this cruel action be brought to justice.

"This is what we demand but without pointing fingers without concrete prove," he said.
