Negara-Ku is Isma's latest punching bag

The newly-formed non-governmental organisation Negara-Ku has come under relentless attack from Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma).

Numerous statements have been posted on Isma's website by its leaders condemning the outfit comprising former Bersih chairpersons A Samad Said and Ambiga Sreenevasan.

Sharipudin Ab Kadir, who heads Isma's Syura Council, trained his guns on Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (Ikram) secretary-general Zaid Kamaruddin (right), who is the chairperson of Negara-Ku.

Claiming that the latter was a mere puppet to Ambiga, he said: "It's a pity for a Muslim to be a yes man to a female infidel."

"Have you forgotten your promise to fight for Islam?

"Will Allah's syariah be upheld when you are together with Ambiga and other infidels?" he asked Zaid.

Meanwhile, Wanita Isma information chief and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (Usim) lecturer Rafidah Hanim Mokhtar questioned the significance of Negara-Ku.

"Why should we rejoice in the formation of another coalition that was formed, among others, by the signatories of the Coalition of Malaysian NGOs in the UPR Process (Comango) petition?

"Have we forgotten that these signatories are the same people who opposed the articles in the constitution which are pertinent to the sanctity of Islam as the religion of the Federation?" she asked.

She also believes that Zaid and PAS MP Mujahid Yusof Rawa's involvement in Negara-Ku was a setback in ensuring a "better Islamic state for the country".

"(Their involvement) will only create soft spots in young Muslims hearts on contentious issues like the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and secularism.

"How would it not when they see you walking hand in hand for a cause so vague as far as Islam is concerned, with figures who champion values outside the tenets of Islam?" she added.

Foreign agendas

Joining the attack, Isma activist Muhammad Aiman Ahmad Faudzi said Negara-Ku was only fighting to ensure that foreign agendas would be implemented in the country.

He also believes that NGOs in Negara-Ku like the Islamic Renaissance Front (IRF), Lingkaran Islam Traditional (LIT), Muslim Professional Forum (MPF), Sisters In Islam (SIS) and Ikram "do not change anything".

"Their involvement does not change the fact that the agenda brought by this movement is not in line with Islam's sovereignty in the country.

"As such, I recommend them to repent as quickly as possible and to study (religious) books properly," he added.

He further pointed out that Ambiga must first justify that Negara-Ku does not carry any foreign agendas such as the acknowledgment of the LGBT community, the Shi'ites and  apostates.

Ambiga last week, together with national laureate Samad, formed the new movement to battle racism and extremism in the nation.

Negara-Ku which stands for "A people's movement to reclaim our nation " is made up of 68 other NGOs.
