No rush to replace Khalid as MB, says Anwar

Pakatan Rakyat is in no hurry to replace Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor menteri besar, says PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim.

"There is an understanding, but I don't think we need to rush it," he said when approach by journalists after a buka puasa event at his residence in Segambut tonight.

He was responding to a question on whether there was a "deadline" for Abdul Khalid to step down as the state's chief executive officer.

Anwar said the state ruling coalition was in discussion about the matter to achieve an "amicable solution".

Anwar declined to elaborate when queried if Abdul Khalid has agreed to a successor taking over his post.

"This discussion is a private discussion, it is best that we deal with it in a very proper and orderly manner," he said.

Anwar nevertheless praised Khalid's for his performance but said people in Selangor expected more of Pakatan.

"I have always taken the position that he (Abdul Khalid) has done a reasonably good job in terms of financial management and other issues.

"But sometimes we need to build consensus and move on," he said, alluding to the criticism that Abdul Khalid has repeatedly failed to consult the party and coalition on major decisions.

Continuation of Kajang move

Anwar, who is also the federal opposition leader, added the ongoing process was a continuation of the "Kajang move" - the aborted plan for the PKR supremo to contest the Kajang state seat and subsequently take over the MB's post.

"The Kajang move was essentially that - to elevate the level of performance.

"Expectations are so high and people are getting impatient such as the NGOs' comments," he said in reference to the civil society criticism of Abdul Khalid on several controversial issues in the state, including the planned Kinrara-Damansara (Kidex) expressway.

"People are just not satisfied with the things that is going on and they want further impetus - to ensure change (and show) a stark difference between BN's performance and our capacity to perform," he stressed.

It appears that the decision to change the MB has already been made, and it is now a question of time when this will be executed.

Wan Azizah is one of the key contenders to replace Abdul Khalid, but coalition partner PAS is also keen to have one of its representatives to take the job.
