Pos Malaysia: 50 sen flat rate for all festive greeting cards

KUCHING: In line with the spirit of 1Malaysia, Pos Malaysia yesterday announced a 50sen postage flat rate for festive cards to anywhere within Malaysia.
According to a press release from Kuala Lumpur yesterday, the special offer will allow Malaysians to send more greeting cards to friends and family during major festivals celebrated in Malaysia with a cheaper rate than normal postage.
The promotional rate of 50sen will be offered for the following major festive occasions in Malaysia: Hari Raya Aidilfitri (July 23 – Aug 25), Deepavali (Oct 29 – Nov 17), Christmas (Dec 10 – Dec 31) and Chinese Lunar New Year (Jan 21 – Feb 16, 2013).
The rate is applicable for all sizes of festive greeting cards with weights of no more than 50gm.
“With the current development of Information and Communication Technologies such as e-mail, SMS, and free e-cards, we understand that Malaysians would choose these alternatives.
“However, many of them still value the personal touch when wishing friends and loved ones with physical greeting cards. Therefore, we would like to encourage Malaysians to send greeting cards during these festive seasons by introducing the one postage rate,” said Pos Malaysia Bhd Group chief executive officer Dato’ Khalid Abdol Rahman.
The postage flat rate for festive cards is 28 per cent cheaper than postage imposed on normal mail that weighs below 50gm.
The normal postage rate for standard mail weighing below 20gm is at 60 sen, and 70 sen for mail below 50gm.
However, greeting cards to international destinations will be charged the normal surface or airmail postage.
“For Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Pos Malaysia would like to advise customers to post their Hari Raya Cards by Aug 13 to ensure that the cards are delivered to the recipients in a timely manner before the celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“Pos Malaysia would also like to advise customers to adhere to the proper guidelines on writing addresses on envelopes to ensure that all the necessary information is included, such as the full name of the recipient, house number, block number, name of the building, etc., as this would help the process and delivery of greeting cards more efficiently,” the statement added.
