She hits a nerve already made raw by Muhyiddin's recent controversial remarks.
KUALA LUMPUR: In what may have been a Freudian slip, the Prime Minister’s wife today called on non-Malays to join the Malays in ensuring that Malaysia remains peaceful.
“Let’s together protect the peace,” Rosmah Mansor said in a speech here. “Let’s not leave it only to the Malays to maintain the peace. The Indians and the Chinese too must maintain peace in Malaysia.”
She seemed to realise that she had made a slip, for she quickly added: “I’m not saying they don’t do it, but it is my duty as a leader’s wife to give such advice, to remind.”
The speech was delivered at an event organised by the Cheras Education Foundation, where 665 people, including orphans, received aid in the form of cash, food and clothing.
Rosmah’s remarks came amidst a furore caused by a speech in which Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin made some remarks that referenced the racial riots of May 13, 1969.
