Mastura Mohd Rashid is the founder of the Nasi Lemak Project, a soup kitchen that distributes food to the homeless in Brickfields, Ampang, and Chow Kit on Fridays.
"I never knew even knew about the award until my nomination in April," Mastura told The Malaysian Insider.
She added that she did not expect to win the award.
"I guess it is due to the independent nature of Nasi Lemak Project, and the fact that it is an initiative fronted by youths."
Nasi Lemak Project was set up in 2012, with volunteers comprising mostly of IIUM students. She received funding for the project after winning a grant worth RM10,000 from the US Embassy. – July 11, 2014.
