Utusan roasts Mkini, Insider again for readers' comments

Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia has launched another attack on online media Malaysiakini and The Malaysian Insider today for being a medium for "seditious" comments from "pro-opposition" readers.

In his column in the weekend edition Mingguan Malaysia, assistant editor Azman Anuar accused the two news portals of advancing the agenda of the "anti-Malay and anti-Islam".

"Usually these 'pro-opposition' portals never report things that are true.

"They selective report whatever the editor feels. It's even better if their reports can gain the readers' sympathy and have them attack Malay and Muslim leaders through the comments," wrote Azman in his  'Pedas-pedas Kari' (Hot like curry) column.

In the article 'Look at the portals' games', he claimed that the portals encouraged those who criticise Malays and Muslims, and would allegedly delete those that did not.

"The Malaysian Insider and Malaysiakini give space and is the medium for the pro-opposition groups and those anti-Islam to issue seditious words," he added.

"For these portals, if they criticise Islam and its followers, there is no problem. They hope the Malays will not reply or fight back.

"Harsh words are left to flood the comments section on their reports that are biassed and seditious.

"Comments that do not favour their views are quickly deleted," he claimed.

Azman also lamented that the portals often "spin" articles by Utusan to give the Malay daily a negative perception.

He called on the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police to probe the portals' "agenda" that he alleged aims to pit communities against one another.

The fiery rant follows Utusan's article yesterday having Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin warning of a possible repeat of the May 13, 1969 riots should people continue to criticise Malays and Muslims.

The DPM was speaking at a breaking fast function at his home constituency.
