Puteri Umno slams a toy shop operator for discriminating against tudung-clad employees.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Wanita Umno movement has slammed a renowned toy shop here for discriminating against female employees wearing the ‘tudung’ (headscarves).
Its chief, Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said, the shop’s action was against the rights of Muslims and showed that there were still people who were narrow-minded about tudung-clad women.
“Being denied a job because of wearing the tudung or being ordered to take off the tudung to work are superficial excuses and is not relevant to the performance of an employee,” she said in a statement here today.
She said this regarding a Tweet last Thursday by popular actor Rosyam Nor regarding a toy store which had allegedly requested his daughter remove her tudung as a requirement for employment.
Mas Ermieyati said such mindsets should be scrapped, adding that the toy shop should make an open apology through the media for touching the sensitivities of the Muslim community.
