‘BODOH SOMBONG’ era is long over & done with, UMNO

‘BODOH SOMBONG’ era is long over & done with, UMNO
There was a time and period in the history of Malaysia – and not centuries ago but just round the last bend of thirty years mind you, when our leader would shout “Buy British last!” and all of us will join the chorus, “Yeah, yeah, boycott mat salleh!”
Our leader then too would pump the tax and oil money to combat the Australians with yet another Public Relations threat of a boycott and we would also join the chorus as we throw our weight behind the then prime minister and yell, "padan muka".
We went on to invent that now eroding slogan war cry “Malaysia Bolih” only to find out it was yet another misplaced ‘bodoh sombong’ motivator.
Today, it seems like we are still never wanting to grow out of our childish and one-eyed ‘bodoh sombong’ stance.
The government has, in reacting to the statements expressed by the US Ambassador to Malaysia with regards to the concerns of keeping the Sedition Act, called up His Excellency to register its protest.
“Don’t meddle in our internal affairs!” seems to be the reprimand dished to the US.
Would all the protestors-on-hire now be unleashed to rant outside the US Embassy in the Federal capital? The world is watching and time will tell whether our ‘bodoh sombong’ prevails.
The nations around the globe are fast tracking forward to return to the human species their fundamental liberties and freedom as universally endorsed, in preparation for a whole new world order that is definitely going to provide a transformed framework to meet the changing parameters and moulds of economics, politics, environment and society.
But we here are busy telling the US “not to interfere”. Did not the notorious tyrants of the world elswhere also say that in the face of the US? And did they survive let alone prevail? Is Gadafi, Idi Amin, Saddam and similar others not good enough to make us Malaysians and our leaders to be mindful of the perils of being a ‘bodoh sombong’ nation?
Even our neighbor with nearly eight times our population size has shed its ‘Suharto-amour’ and is fast embracing the global wave of a freedom-world.
Let us face harsh reality. As much as the world's accounting standards are now conforming to the dictates of the US-influenced entity; as much as the UN will not drift far off from the dotted course drawn by the US; as long as China and Moscow remain cautious of US policy, why must we stubbornly and foolishly continue to be ‘bodoh sombong’ as we keep barking in our own yard?
For a tiny nation of 30 million – with a heavy US export dependency and with a nation of people who are growing up from cradle to grave in debt, why so ‘bodoh sombong’ lah?
We have ample lessons in our own history of how our rulers of past eras were quick to recognize the ‘foreign powers’ then and harnessed their goodwill for the betterment of local subjects. What happened to all that humility today, UMNO?
Talking big to big brother does not make us brave or dignified. When the US frowns on the Sedition Act's making a come-back, they do not talk out of ‘bodoh sombong’. They are hell bent on fighting the war on terror of the future and therefore the civil liberties and rights and freedom empowerment is the seen as the weapons of war on terror.
And free of the colored lens of local political ambitions, the US intelligence ceratinly sees through and seives Malaysia's ground sentiments extremely well.
Is all that too difficult for our UMNO-payroll leaders to decipher?
Yes we do not have to be slaves to any nation. But we do not have to be ‘bodoh sombong’ either. And trying to be a one-eyed hero in the land of the blind is long over with the advent and continuing transformation of the networked society.
Wake up UMNO. The people have stopped singing chorus as in the bygone decades where RTM, TV3 and the morning papers were our only news fodder. By flexing your political muscles to the US before an audience of 30 million local population is not going to translate to more salutes to BN either. - MAIL BAG
