Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has ordered all relevant agencies to provide aid without delay to over 130,000 evacuees and others stranded in the worst floods to hit Malaysia in decades.
He also announced a special fund of RM500 million to be managed by the National Security Council to help relief efforts, and urged financial institutions to reschedule the repayment period of borrowers affected by the floods.
Najib cut short his US holiday to visit Kelantan, the worst hit among the eight states flooded by incessant torrential rain brought by the annual monsoon season.
During his tour, he boarded a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) helicopter to the affected areas, and visited victims at the Temporary Relief Centre (PPS) at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Kubang Batang, Tumpat, and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan
Belimbing PPS in Tanah Merah.
Meanwhile, Kelantan Flood Disaster Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said they have identified the four worst affected areas in the state, namely Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, Tumpat and Tanah Merah.
Kelantan, with more than 55,000 evacuees at relief centres today, has declared a special holiday tomorrow. Sunday is a working day in Kelantan.
