The Rural and Regional Development Ministry has lodged a police report over a ministry letter that a third party had allegedly edited replacing the word "kemajuan" (development) with "kemaluan" (genitals).
The report was lodged with the Seremban 2 police headquarters yesterday, claiming the typo was not the ministry's doing but allegedly the work of an unknown external party.
The ministry also lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over the letter being circulated on the internet.
The original letter issued by the Negri Sembilan/Malacca development and monitoring projects division was signed by Mohd Alfian Alwi on behalf of its director.
"Our checks have found that the original letter signed by the ministry official was deliberately amended," the ministry said in a statement yesterday.
"This irresponsible action has led to misunderstanding and in turn, has affected the ministry's good name and image," it added.
The edited letter made rounds on social media this week, with many thinking that the ministry was at fault for the careless "typo". - mkini
