JOHOR BARU - A 31-year-old male detainee died at the Ayer Molek lockup while police were preparing to send him to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital on Thursday night.
Johor Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Datuk Hasnan Hassan said a doctor who was called to the scene found no injuries on the detainee, who was declared dead at 10.22pm.
He said the detainee was remanded on Jan 4 on suspicion of a drugs-related offence.
Police had sent him to the same hospital for out-patient treatment on Jan 7 after he complained of stomach pain. The deceased, from Kulai, had 10 criminal records for drug abuse.
Hasnan said police have classified the case as sudden death and are waiting for the post-mortem report. - Sundaily
