Hindraf appeals to Negeri ruler on behalf of dying teenager

Hindu father wants assurances that the Islamic authorities will not snatch his son’s body in case of his death.
Waythamoorthy_ydpbns_300SEREMBAN: Hindraf Makkal Sakthi, acting as a last resort on behalf of the father of a teenager on his deathbed, has written to the Yang Di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, seeking his intervention in what it calls a tragic case of a conversion attempt gone wrong.
As the boy concerned is on his deathbed following a suicide attempt, the father through Hindraf wants an assurance from the Negeri Ruler, that there would be no bodysnatching by the Islamic religious authorities in the event of his son’s death.
“We have been informed by the father that doctors have told him that his son is unlikely to survive the suicide by poisoning attempt although they are trying their best to revive him,” wrote Hindraf Chairman P. Waythamoorthy in the letter which was also copied to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. Waytha, not so long ago, was a Senator and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
Briefly, the ad hoc apolitical human rights NGO acting across the political divide, also states that the father wants the Negeri Ruler to allow the renunciation of the teenager’s obsolete status forced upon him and/or ensure that he’s not forcefully converted to Islam and ensure that he’s not forcefully separated from his father.
Hindraf cites the Federal Constitution that allows the parent to determine and decide on the faith of the child. In this particular case, the Muslim mother abandoned her Malaysian family and returned to Indonesia about a year after her son was born, leaving her husband to revert to Hinduism and bring him up as a Hindu. “The boy has not had the love of his mother since the age of one.”
Further, the father through Hindraf, also wants the Negeri Sembilan Ruler to intervene and ensure that the Islamic religious authorities will not harass his family for any reason whatsoever.
The letter gives the background on the case of 14-year-old Thiayagguru who’s in intensive care at a hospital after reportedly taking poison to end his life.
The letter to the Negeri Sembilan Ruler reiterated that Ganesan’s Indonesian wife abandoned the family and returned to her home country about a year after Thiayagguru was born. Ganesan subsequently obtained a decree from the Syariah Court in Seremban allowing him to renounce Islam which he had adopted upon marriage, and return to his Hindu faith.
Thiayagguru was not so lucky. He’s listed as a Muslim in official records and his father and he have been given the runaround ever since then by the National Registration Department (NRD) on removing his (Thiayagguru’s) Islam/Muslim classification from official records.
Between these efforts by the duo and Thiayagguru ending up where he’s now, dying in hospital, the Islamic Religious authorities allegedly kidnapped the boy, imprisoned him for intensive brainwashing/indoctrination sessions on Islam and rehabilitation, threatened him, and allegedly forced the boy to lodge a false police report against his father, and did not allow the father to get near the son.
It could not be immediately determined why the Indonesian lady in this melodrama abandoned her family and fled the country.
