KOTA BARU - The attacks on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) are part of a planned move, motivated by certain parties with political interests, to undermine foreign investor confidence in the company and the country, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.
He said well-known accounting firm Deloitte informed the Cabinet on Wednesday that it had conducted extra scrutiny on 1MDB's accounts, including bringing forensic experts to check on the documents involved, and was satisfied with the accounts and approved it.
"The Cabinet yesterday (Wednesday) discussed on 1MDB and we were briefed by its president and executive director Arul Kanda and senior officials from Deloitte," he said.
Zahid said all the attacks, speculation and rumours hurled against the company did not only affect 1MDB but would also have a negative impact on the sentiments of foreign investors, especially those who planned to subscribe to the company's initial public offer (IPO) when it was made.
"Any attack on 1MDB is also a form of attack on the country, and those involved must be responsible for all their false allegations and slander against 1MDB," he said. - NST
