Son of Dr M's ex-political adviser may be the charred casualty in Bukit Damansara Myvi fire
PETALING JAYA - Residents in Bukit Damansara were taken aback yesterday morning when they saw thick smoke from a nearby forest.
Little did they know the smoke was coming from a flaming car with the driver inside.
Police, who tracked down the owner, believe the victim could be the son of a former political adviser to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Brickfields police chief ACP Muhammad Azlee Abdullah said the house of the former political adviser was 2km from where the car was found.
“The former political adviser, who is a Tan Sri in his 80s, was shocked when he was informed about the matter. He told us his son, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, drove out in the grey Perodua Myvi at about 9am,” he said.
Azlee said the Fire and Rescue Department received a call at about 10.30am saying there was thick smoke coming from the forest near a water tank in Jalan Seria Bestari 1.
“Firemen arrived at the scene within 10 minutes and put out the fire. But the person in the car was already dead as he had suffered 100 per cent burns,” he said.
He said the department’s forensic team was trying to establish the cause of the fire, and police were waiting for the DNA results before they could confirm the victim’s identity.
“The case has been classified as sudden death pending further investigations. Police did not find any element of foul play at the crime scene,” he said. - Malay Mail
