The PM's frankness in answering Mahathir's criticisms including on the Altantuya Shaariibuu and 1MDB issues was the right move.
KUALA LUMPUR: The frank replies by Prime Minister Najib Razak to the questions fielded to him have shown his honesty and transparency as a leader.
The president of the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP), Hashim Adnan, said in the talk show programme ‘Soal Jawab TV3 Edisi Khas’ last night, Najib was honest in answering questions on issues brought up by former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad.
“The replies from his own mouth were very clear and hopefully the public can accept his words.
“Do not believe untrue stories because they will only confuse the mind and it is worse still if we do not understand the real situation,” he told Bernama here today.
Similarly, president of the Indian Progressive Front (IPF) M Sambanthan said the actions of the prime minister had boosted the confidence of the people in his leadership.
Sambanthan said Najib’s frankness in answering Mahathir’s criticisms including on the Altantuya Shaariibuu and 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issues was the right move.
“Before this, many people were angry when several issues arose, but after the Prime Minister gave his replies last night, it showed his concern for the people’s voice, and I am confident the people were satisfied,” he said.
He said it was now time for the leaders under Najib to strengthen Barisan Nasional (BN) by working even harder for the nation through the implementation of various agendas for the benefit of the people.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association chief activist Nadzim Johan said such interviews should be held more often as a platform for the country’s leaders to answer questions from the public.
“If possible, such interviews should be held weekly, not just with the Prime Minister but also with other ministers and secretaries-general who must play their part in addressing the people’s problems.
“The ministers must emulate the prime minister’s calmness in facing an issue and they should be more hardworking in supporting him,” he said.
He added that the people would then not be confused and influenced by criticisms and false claims.
