KUALA LUMPUR - State-owned public broadcaster Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) paid telecommunications giant Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) RM103.14 million even before it officially signed a contract to lease the latter’s transmission stations, according to the Auditor-General’s (A-G) 2014 report released today.
The audit also revealed that RTM had overpaid TM by 20.2 per cent for electricity in one station, and 28.4 per cent for lease in another four.
The RM103.14 million payment was the sum of eight payments made between October 2012 and December 2013 for the contract signed only in August 26, 2014, said the report.
“Checks have also found that the Finance Ministry, through a letter dated July 22, 2014, was informed that the payment to TM was made without contract and had asked the ministry’s secretary-general to give administrative reprimand to responsible officer to obey the current procurement rule which is in effect,” said the report.
According to the report, TM charged RTM RM161,589 between 2012 and July 2014 for its electricity usage in the station in Bukit Lima, Sarawak, which was 20.2 per cent more than RTM’s actual usage.
In addition, TM charged RTM RM121,000 for lease of space in four stations in the same period, which was 28.4 per cent more than it should have claimed. - Malay Mail
