NO, DR M! IGP A WASTE OF TIME: Only an independent team can dig out the bigwigs behind Altantuya's murder

There should be an independent probe into whether or not the police had properly investigated motive in the Altantuya case.

We have seen calls for answers over why it is she was killed. There have been questions focused on the propriety of the conduct of investigations by the police in this case.

Surely, in these circumstances, the police are in a position of conflict as what could be is a case of negligence on their part.

There will also be consequential questions which would put the police on trial here. For example, if there was no probe into motive, we want to know why. If there was, then we want to know why wasn't this put forward during the trial.

It is improper for the police to be in charge of an investigation which focuses on their conduct.

The IGP has come up with some responses over this issue of late. With respect, these responses ought not to carry weight as he is an interested party as it is the conduct of his men which is being questioned.

I call upon the Prime Minister to direct that an independent team be set up in order to probe this matter. The PM needs to show that he is transparent and prepared to meet the challenge in this matter which has now developed international prominence.
