Resolve differences, PKR tells allies, Pakatan leaders to meet in 2 weeks

She has urged leaders of both parties to return to the negotiation table to resolve their differences, adding that the meeting is set to have four main agendas.
One of them is on the goods and services tax (GST); discussions on how to ensure Malaysians are not overly burdened by the broad-based consumption tax and support efforts objecting to its implementation.
The other two agendas will be on efforts to aid those affected by December's massive floods, and election preparations especially for the upcoming Sarawak state election.
"I believe the people need political leadership back to defend their interests and to resolve disputes in a dignified way.
“I pray that the Pakatan Rakyat leadership is given the strength to strengthen their resolve to face Barisan Nasional," she wrote on her Facebook page today.
The last PR council meeting was on February 9, a day before opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was sentenced to five years in jail for sodomy.
Dr Wan Azizah said her request for DAP and PAS to discuss their differences behind closed doors did not mean ignoring matters that the two could not agree upon.
"However, if the differences can be discussed by putting the defence of the people as the main agenda, I am confident they can be resolved," she said.
Differences between Islamist party PAS and its allies surfaced during the PKR-initiated “Kajang Move” to replace former Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim early last year, which subsequently spiralled into the Selangor MB imbroglio lasting more than six months.
PAS's insistence on implementing the Islamic penal code in the east coast state of Kelantan further widened the cracks between its partners, who claimed hudud was not part of PR's common policy framework.
On March 25, DAP national leadership announced that it had decided to cut ties with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang over his party's insistence on implementing hudud in Kelantan although it is still committed to PR.
PAS leaders had reacted angrily, saying it was not possible to boycott Hadi and still expect to work with DAP.
Since then, Sarawak DAP has frozen ties with PAS in the state, as has Perak DAP with its PAS counterpart, as well as both Sabah PKR and DAP with the state's PAS chapter.
Federal Territory PAS has also frozen ties with the Federal Territory DAP, calling it "insolent".
Dr Wan Azizah acknowledged worries over the decisions by several state chapters of PR parties to freeze ties with PAS and hoped this too would be discussed at the PR leadership council meeting.
