The Election Commission today declared a straight fight between Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS in the Rompin by-election, after nominations closed this morning.
BN's Datuk Hasan Arifin will face PAS's Nazri Ahmad for the parliamentary seat, which was left vacant following the death of Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis in a helicopter crash in Semenyih, Selangor on April 4.
In the last general election, Jamaluddin retained the seat after defeating former PAS Wanita head, Nuridah Mohd Salleh with a majority of 15,114 votes..
Rompin has 53,294 voters, including 545 early voters.
Polling day is on May 5 while early voting will be held on April 30.
