Political cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque, better known as Zunar, was today slapped with nine sedition charges over his tweet on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy conviction, believed to be the highest faced by an individual under the draconian law enacted during the British colonial era.
Zunar claimed trial to the charges and has been freed on RM22,500 bail.
Sessions Court judge Zanol Rashid Hussain allowed the prosecution's application that the charges be heard by a single judge.
He fixed case management for May 20.
Zunar had tweeted on February 10 : "The lackeys in black robes are proud of their sentences. The reward from political masters must be plenty."
He was referring to the Federal Court's decision on that day to uphold PKR de facto chief Anwar's sodomy verdict and sentence him to five years' jail for sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008.
