Police arrested cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque at the Jalan Duta Court Complex in Kuala Lumpur soon after he posted bail for nine counts of sedition.
Lawyer Latheefa Koya said Zulkifilee, also known as Zunar, was picked by two policemen around noon.
"He was given 30 minutes to have lunch before he was taken to the Dang Wangi police station," she said.
She said lawyer Michelle Yesudas was on her way to the police station.
Latheefa said the cartoonist would be held for investigation under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Zunar would be questioned over a picture posted on Facebook of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's face superimposed on PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli's body in his purple jail attire.
The photograph was posted on the social media site by The Zunar Kartunis Fan Club page which Latheefa said the cartoonist had no control over.
