GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has released figures to debunk claims that the Penang Government had neglected the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency which sees a by-election on May 7.
He pointed out that even the BN candidate for Permatang Pauh, Suhaimi Sabudin, was able to make a living as a contractor in Penang and accused Umno of stirring up racial and religious sentiments in the parliamentary constituency.
“Suhaimi should answer whether he can make a living in Penang,” said Lim. “He clearly can make a living here. Even the BN candidate can get projects here.”
So, how can the Penang Government be accused of sidelining Malay contractors?
Delving into figures, Lim said his administration had spent RM13.925 million for 95 road infrastructure projects in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency between 2008 and 2015 while the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) had spent RM24.58 million for drainage projects in the past seven years.
The Penang Government, he disclosed, also spent RM1.93 million to purchase 2.2 acres of land in January 2013 and another 2.19 acres this year to build a community hall on 4.337 acres by this August in Permatang Pasir.
Lim reiterated that he was releasing the facts and figures to demolish BN slander on “the lack of development and infrastructure in Permatang Pauh”.
“Allocation for Islamic religious affairs had increased from RM25.58 million in 2008 to an annual RM54.08 million.”
