The Pahang State Assembly has passed the Members of the Administr
ation and State Legislative Assemblymen's (Remuneration) Act 1980 (Amendment 2015) Enactment Bill which will see a salary increase for 42 assemblymen from RM4,100 to RM11,000 a month effective January 1, 2015.
The motion was tabled by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob (BN-Pelangai) and was seconded by Datuk Dr Ahmad Shukri Ismail (BN-Pulau Tawar).
Adnan said their salaries were last reviewed in 1980 and it had been postponed for too long compared with other states which had made such amendments.
"In the proposed amendment, we took into consideration the interest and welfare of the people.
"With the increased pay, assemblymen will be able to better serve the people," he said.
The motion was passed with majority support including from the opposition.
The sitting also passed a motion to appoint Pahang MCA chairman Datuk Hoh Khai Mun and Kuala Krau Umno Wanita chief Norahan Abu Bakar as Senators for three years starting today.
The sitting then adjourned sine die. -Bernama
