MACC locks bank accounts of S'wak asst minister


The bank accounts of a Sarawak assistant minister containing deposits up to RM4 million have been frozen by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

MACC Investigations Director Mohamad Jamidan Abdullah said toda the minister was being investigated for corruption and possible abuse of power.

Jamidan did not name the assistant minister but he alluded toinvestigationscentered around the construction of the 16-storey Baitul Makmur II building worth RM250 million in Kuching.

"For this purpose, we have taken down a statement from the assistant minister.

“We have also recorded a statement from a businessman who is in his 50's and a director of the company involved in the construction," he said.

Jamidan did not discount that more people will be called in to record their statements.

"Following our investigations, MACC have frozen several bank accounts of the assistant minister which have deposits worth RM4 million," he said in a statement.
