MIC ‘ready to defect’ to Opposition

Palanivel has a soft spot for the Opposition and has on numerous occasions expressed his thoughts on the matter.
MIC
GEORGE TOWN: Former MIC Treasurer General R Ramanan does not put it past President G Palanivel to take the entire party into Pakatan Rakyat, the informal opposition alliance. “It’s well known that the MIC President has a soft spot for the Opposition and has on numerous occasions expressed his thoughts on the matter to senior party members even during official meetings.”
He bases the “defection” theory on the fact that Palanivel has been seen once too often with P Ramasamy, the Penang Deputy Chief Minister II and there’s chatter about this among MIC branch chairmen. “Palanivel lives under a shell and continues to spew lie after lie to confuse MIC members with his theatrics.”
“During his campaigning rounds, to defend his presidency during the upcoming party election, Palanivel has been telling MIC branch chairmen that Ramasamy is on the verge of joining MIC.”
This idea, according to Ramanan, was far-fetched and ludicrous and smells of Palanivel’s natural talent for spinning a web of lies to cover his deceitful actions. “Ramasamy was known as a straightforward character and these shadow games, which Palanivel seems to be suggesting, doesn’t seem to be in line with his (Ramasamy’s) character.”
The best option for calling Palanivel’s bluff on this matter would be to get Ramasamy to confirm if this was indeed the case, he added. “If it was true, we in MIC will roll out the red carpet for him and welcome him into the fold.”
“Palanivel is probably discussing with Ramasamy on selling out the Barisan Nasional (BN) and joining the Opposition ranks.”
Ramanan pointed out that during Palanivel’s latest visit to Penang, he was fetched at the airport by an official Penang Government vehicle and driven to Equatorial Hotel to meet with Ramasamy.
