Najib on the verge of a BIG decision

He may have realised that there’s no way out from his present predicament based on the stand that he has taken and that his political career has ended.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s face tells it all. His face of late no longer has that brightness and cheeriness which has been his trademark. It now looks dull, and he appears withdrawn. He doesn’t appear happy.
Political analyst Shahbudin Husin was conveying, in his latest blog posting, what even his friends had observed. “It may foretell that Najib was on the verge of making a big decision, his political career suddenly cut short, after having come to the conclusion that former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad will not cease attacking him and that he can no longer continue to shoulder the burden placed on him.”
Perhaps the realization has also slowly dawned on him that not only has Mahathir been getting through to the people through his attacks on him and making them keep their distance, but the Umno leaders themselves who had expressed support for him suddenly appear shaky on the position that they had taken, ventured the analyst.
“He may have realised that the antics of some of his family members with 1MDB has driven a wedge between him and his brothers who have since disputed the claim that the Najib family’s spending habits and lavish lifestyle was a reflection of the legacy wealth left by their father.”
His brother Nazir has issued a stinging statement on 1MDB, continued Shahbudin, asking the Board to bear responsibility and quit. “He felt that clearly it’s not the done thing for them to just remain silent in the face of the attacks that continue.”
“The insinuation is clear since Najib advises 1MDB.”
Shahbudin continues the theme of his posting this time viz. Najib’s face and what it tells us.
Others brought him news on a gathering that Najib had with the media on Thursday night.
Again, he appeared unhappy to many when he should have in fact presented his best on an occasion like this. “After all, he was surrounded by the usual supporters and sycophants who wanted to be with him as a sign of their continued support for him and willingness to continue that support,” reported Shahbudin on the observations of those who were there. “Clearly, he was not his usual self.”
Earlier in the day, when launching the Institut Wasatiyah in Putrajaya, it was the same story of a changed Najib at least as far as his face was concerned. Those who usually engaged with him, said the analyst, found that Najib tried to be as before, but there was a difference this time and they could sense it. The face and complexion told it all.
“Several guests after that debated among themselves the change that had appeared to come over Najib. They expressed surprise,” said Shahbudin. “There are those who read him as now appearing sunken, even slightly thinner, and not having the same fighting spirit as before.”
What’s going on here? What appears to be irritating and in fact burdening Najib?
The political analyst went on to speculate whether the change in Najib had something to do with 1MDB – a lot has been going on with the Jho Low connection and he has been left to shoulder the burden alone and probably getting bored with it — or from wondering about what new attacks can be expected from Mahathir.
“If it’s Mahathir attacks which are irritating and worrying him, isn’t he the one who vowed that he would never surrender and would continue to fight?” asked Shahbudin. “Then, there was that gathering in Tawau where Najib was greeted by 40,000 Bugis, his people, because it’s here the greatest concentration of them can be found in the country.”
After having received such support , and having said that he would never surrender and would fight to stay in his job, Najib by right should appear even more cheerful and spirited, having obtained such meaningful moral support, pointed out Shahbudin.
