PAS TO BE PASSED ON TO THE INEPT? It's nepotism - first Nik Aziz's son, now Hadi's son wants stake in party
PAS Youth deputy chief Muhammad Khalil says it's not easy being the party president Abdul Hadi Awang's eldest son.
"Being in a politician's family is difficult because we become the focus of the public. However, I take that as "asam garam" (part and parcel of life). I just have to be strong and be patient," he told Sinar Harian.
"I am lucky to have been taught by my father, especially in Islamic politics. I joined PAS because I felt a sense of responsibility and was interested (in the party) myself," he continued.
However, the Islamic studies degree holder from Portsmouth University said Hadi (right) had not given him any specific advice before he joined the party.
“But I'm sure there will be some influences due to our relationship. I have to admit that.”
He added that Hadi’s experience in PAS itself would serve as a form of advice. “What is of utmost importance in being a PAS member, is (to know) that we have to face many challenges," he said.
On his role as number two in PAS youth, Muhammad Khalil said it was about more than just gaining support from young Malaysians.
"My role is not just engaging with youths to get their support, but at the same time we hope they will contribute to Islam," he explained.
Muhammad Khalil has received nominations to contest both the PAS Youth chief and deputy chief posts in the upcoming Muktamar, which has been touted as a battle between PAS' ulama and pro-Pakatan factions.
The contest for PAS youth leadership will be a five cornered fight, featuring Muhammad Khalid, incumbent Suhaizan Kayat, the late Nik Aziz Nik Mat's son Nik Abduh, and two others. - M'kni
