JEDDAH: Prime Minister Najib Razak was accorded an official ceremony led by Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif al-Saud at the King Abdulaziz al-Saud International Airport, here on Saturday night as he began an official visit to the country.
Such a ceremonial welcome was an honour to a Malaysian leader as the King bestows the protocol to a select few.
Najib, who was accompanied by his wife Rosmah Mansor, is making a three-day official visit at the invitation of King Salman Abdulaziz al-Saud.
He arrived at the airport on a special flight at 9.13pm local time leading a delegation of senior Malaysian Cabinet Ministers including Foreign Minister Anifah Aman, Defence Minister Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Minister at the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharum.
On the schedule for the delegation was a Royal Banquet at As-salam Palace, Jeddah, hosted by King Salman.
Early Sunday, Najib is to visit Mashaaer al-Mugaddasah station (Southern Line) of the Makkah project in which Prasarana Malaysia Berhad won a bid as ‘shadow operator’ of the first phase of the Makkah Metro Public Transport System (Makkah Metro).
Few minutes before noon, Najib was to have an audience with King Salman at As-Salam Palace in the first official meeting of the two leaders since King Salman was crowned earlier this year.
In the evening, Najib and Rosmah will head for Masjidil Haram to perform the umrah before departing home on Monday.

4 June 2015 - PETALING JAYA: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd's former CEO Shahril Mokhtar has come out to deny that the 807 million riyal Arafah-Mina Metro System job bagged by the group under his stewardship, had anything to do with 1Malaysia Development Bhd's (1MDB) former partnership with PetroSaudi International.
