ROSMAH'S 'FRIEND': Deepak gets order to stop Sabbaruddin Chik from Bank Rakyat expose

Former Culture, Arts and Tourism Minister Tan Sri Sabbaruddin Chik was today prevented from publishing and distributing a book, "Membongkar Skandal Deepak dan Bank Rakyat, Dari Isi Hati Tan Sri Sabbaruddin Chik" (Exposing the Scandal of Deepak & Bank Rakyat – from the heart of Tan Sri Sabbaruddin Chik).

This followed a ruling by the High Court judge Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera in allowing an application by businessman J. Deepak for an injunction to prevent Sabbaruddin and the writer of the book, Shahbudin Husin, from continuing to publish and distribute the book.

Vazeer Alam made the decision in chambers in the presence of lawyers Ashokvijay J. Sanghrajka, representing Deepak, and Adnan Seman, for Sabbaruddin and Shahbudin.

Ashokvijay, when met by reporters, said the court allowed his client's application pending the disposal of his (Deepak) defamation suit against Sabbaruddin and Shahbudin.

He said the court set three days, from Oct 19, to hear the suit, which was filed last March 11.

In the suit, Deepak said Sabbaruddin provided the materials for Shahbudin to write the book.

He said the book, published by Special One Publication, contained words that defamed him and that the publication of the book had embarrassed him and tarnished his reputation.

He said the defamatory words in the book implied that he was a businessman who could not be trusted.

He is also seeking, among others, general damages of RM1.1 billion, aggravated damages, interest and other relief deemed fit by the court. – Bernama
