Just hours after The Malaysian Insider reported that Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin is being investigated for sedition, the popular Perlis mufti posted on his Facebook page photographs of him and the inspector-general of police (IGP) together in Mecca.
Asri took to the social networking site to say that he had an "interesting chat and exchange of ideas" with the IGP, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
He also said that ‎Khalid was the head of the Malaysian delegation while he was the appointed mufti.
"It was quite interesting to chat and talk about our experiences," the mufti posted on Facebook.
He also said that ‎Khalid was the head of the Malaysian delegation while he was the appointed mufti.
Police had confirmed to The Malaysian Insider that they have opened investigation papers against Asri and that he is being probed for sedition.
They began investigations earlier this week when two police officers from Bukit Aman recorded a statement from journalists who had reported on the mufti’s Facebook posting.
In the status uploaded at 8pm the day before the overnight rally on Merdeka weekend, Asri had described those who rise up to fight traitors and cruel leaders as heroes.
The 34-hour Bersih 4 gathering was to rally support for a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak over financial scandals.
The gathering also demanded reforms, such as clean elections, a corrupt-free government, the right to protest, strengthening parliamentary democracy and saving the economy.
