AMPANG: Datuk Jamal Md Yunos (pix) and the organisers of the anti-Selangor government protest here will be called up for questioning for illegal assembly, said police.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairuldin Saad said police did not receive any notice from the Sungai Besar Umno division chief to hold the protest.
"We will open an investigation paper under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act.
"Of course they will be called for questioning. They failed to notify us," ACP Khairuldin said.
The protest was held at the front of the Ampang Umno branch headquarters along Jalan Ampang after the municipal council here rejected the organiser's application to hold it at the Spectrum shopping mall.
This, Jamal said, caused the number of protesters to dwindle and claimed that as many as 10,000 people would have showed up if they were allowed to hold it at the mall.
He claimed the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council was under the influence of the Selangor state government.
Police had declared the red shirt rally illegal.
The protest began at 3pm and ended without incident, two hours later, while about 500 police officers kept a close watch from across the road.
The event was organised by eight Malay non-governmental organisations that wanted to highlight the alleged failings by the Selangor government. -Star
