Haze: 2,528 schools to close tomorrow



A total of 2,528 schools in areas where the air quality comes under the unhealthy category as per the Air Pollutants Index (API) have been ordered to close tomorrow by the Education Ministry.
The ministry in a statement here said the schools involved are in Selangor; Putrajaya; Kuala Lumpur; Kuching, Padawan, Bau, Lundu, Serian, Samarahan, Simunjan and Lubok Antu (Sarawak); Kinta Utara, Kinta Selatan, Manjung and Tanjung Malim (Perak) and Kuala Muda and Yan (Kedah).
It said 1,734,668 students would be affected by the closure.

Meanwhile, the ministry said schools in Malacca; Negeri Sembilan; Tawau, Lahad Datu, Semporna, Kunak (Sabah); Muar, Ledang, Segamat (Johor) which were closed today due to the haze will reopen as normal tomorrow.
As of 5pm today, 25 areas still had air quality at the unhealthy level with the highest API readings recorded in Selangor. Port Klang had an API of 178, Shah Alam (160), Kuala Selangor (140) and Banting and Petaling Jaya (both 134).
Other areas in the range were SK Jalan Pegoh, Ipoh and Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur (127), Seri Manjung (124), Jalan Tasek, Ipoh (120), Sungai Petani (119), Tanjung Malim and Putrajaya (118), Tawau, Port Dickson and Jerantut (114), Perai (113), Bukit Rambai and Kuala Terengganu (112), Seremban (111), Cheras, Kuala Lumpur (109), USM, Pulau Pinang (108) dan Alor Setar, Nilai (107), Taiping (103) and Bandaraya Melaka (102).
