Americans coming to Malaysia nothing new, they have always been here.
KUALA LUMPUR: Minister for International Trade and Industry Mustapa Mohamed reminded Malaysians, in relation to the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA), that the Americans were “already here”.
“The TPPA documents will also be made public in a week or two”.
Mustapa had previously said that the TPPA documents have to be first tabled in the Dewan Rakyat by mid January. He added that since the TPPA was a controversial agreement, the government had to go all out to explain the pros and cons to the people.
Although there would be more certainty on the agreement once the documents were out, the government would still be required to carry out another round of discussions to explain it, he added. “Before the MPs can make informed judgments on the TPPA, the people need to be educated on what it is all about.”
Speaking at #TanyaGomen’s event “Hey! Berani Terima Cabaran TPP?” on Friday, Mustapa reiterated that US companies or workers coming into Malaysia was “nothing new”
“They are already here,” he said. “The US was the biggest country in the world in many ways. We already have American traders and companies here, as well as workers. It’s nothing new.”
“Malaysia is a big player in the market. The reality now is that we rely on each other. It’s really not a case of you eating me or me swallowing you up. It’s a win-win,” assured Mustapa.”
Negotiations on the TPPA concluded on October 5 in Atlanta, US, and the text of the documents would likely be available at the end of this month.
TPPA negotiations, which were first launched in 2005, involve 12 countries — Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam.

"...Does TPPA participating leaders, such as Malaysian Najib Razak knows that if his long perceived arrogant government chooses to change laws or other regulations, whenever they like, which could or would affect US big corporations, the US can sue Malaysia for lost profits? Until participating nations can tell their citizens how the working class can benefit from the deal, it’s a BAD deal..."

“Philip Morris International is currently prosecuting such cases against Australia and Uruguay (not a TPP partner) for requiring cigarettes to carry warning labels.
Canada, under threat of a similar suit, backed down from introducing a similarly effective warning label a few years back.”
Looks like Bolehland could be next (intimidation...?) after Australia and Uruguay…
