KUALA LUMPUR - Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has confirmed that the special task force police team investigating 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) would continue doing so.
The nation’s top cop gave his assurance following Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed’s statement in August that the task force investigating 1MDB had been disbanded.
Khalid stressed that the Attorney-General coordinated the task force and it was clearly stated previously that the task force still existed.
“I will not add to problems and if the A-G says it exists, then it does.
“I have no objections meeting with the team of investigators. Before this, there were meetings, but not coordinated by the A-G to discuss the issue,” he told reporters after an event at Sime Darby Convention Centre at Bukit Kiara today.
Khalid added that investigations into the case had yet to be completed and his department was awaiting the Auditor-General’s report on the controversial issue.
“We will then decide the next course of action and identify the problem.”
The report’s findings are widely expected to be released in three months.
According to him, police had also received reports in Sungai Petani yesterday following Bank Negara Malaysia’s failure to detect or identify the approval given to 1MDB and another report on the leak of information to The Wall Street Journal and Sarawak Report.
