Datuk Seri Najib Razak's arch critic, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he will not lodge any police report against the prime minister despite his vehement criticism and accusations of alleged financial scandal involving 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Dr Mahathir said he would never lodge a police report against anyone without enough evidence, although he felt 1MDB's money was "lost".
"The only way to remove him is through a vote of no confidence, but that requires a sufficient number of votes," the former prime minister told reporters at an event in Kuala Lumpur tonight.
Asked by the media if he would lodge a police report against 1MDB or Najib, given reports lodged by others against the debt-ridden state investor, Dr Mahathir said he would never do so.
"I never make any police report against anybody.
"I don't have enough evidence. I know the money is lost, but I don't know where it is," he said.
Dr Mahathir recently criticised the Attorney-General Chambers' clearing of 1MDB of any offence in making false declarations despite Bank Negara Malaysia's request for a review of the case, and was asked tonight if he would lodge a police report.
He has repeatedly called for Najib's resignation over 1MDB and for receiving RM2.6 billion in his personal accounts from an unknown Middle Eastern donor.
He has also accused Najib of destroying democracy with Putrajaya's actions against critics of 1MDB and interference in the special task force that had been probing the firm which has debts of RM42 billion.
Dr Mahathir had even asked Najib's constituents in Pekan not to vote for him in elections, and has supported proposals for a vote of no-confidence to be taken against the prime minster in the Dewan Rakyat.
