Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali says opposition and Barisan Nasional MPs have been in secret meetings over the no-confidence motion against the prime minister. – The Malaysian Insider filepic, October 22, 2015.
Secret meetings were held between opposition leaders and Barisan Nasional (BN) federal lawmakers over the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said.
The PKR deputy president, Star Online reported today, said the meetings were part of the strategy to get enough support for the vote against Najib.
"Yes, meetings. That's plural, you know," he was quoted as saying in the report when asked if the opposition had held any discussions with any BN MPs to support the motion.
However Azmin, who is Gombak MP, did not reveal how many MPs from the opposition and BN would support the motion, which was filed by opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in Parliament today.
''I can't reveal (how many) now but certainly that is the expectation. We must take this opportunity to express the rakyat's sentiments that we need a strong, new leadership in Putrajaya,” he was quoted as saying in the report.
Azmin also reportedly said he hoped BN MPs would take the opportunity to come on board with the opposition to support the motion.
In a press conference in Parliament today, Dr Wan Azizah said the motion only related to the loss of confidence against Najib and not in the government.
She said she believed the majority of MPs, including those from BN, had lost confidence in the prime minister's leadership.
