Former Umno leader Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah is sceptical that people will believe the findings of the Auditor-General's report on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), which is due by the end of the year.
He said it will be very hard to get people to believe in the report as the entire chain of investigation into the troubled state-owned firm had been subjected to harassment and intervention.
The former Umno supreme council member said this includes the sacking of two ministers – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal – who are critical of 1MDB, the removal of former attorney-general Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, and the transfer of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) senior officers, although the transfer orders were later rescinded.
"I am a believer and an advocate of integrity. But with all that has happened, I conclude that justice is not seen to be done in a just way.
"So what will happen now is that when the government comes up with the report on 1MDB, I am not going to believe it. After all that has happened, how can you believe the contents?
"Even if they say 1MDB is right or did no wrong, or even if they say 1MDB did do some wrong, how do you expect people like me to believe it because the entire chain of investigation was subjected to harassment and intervention," he said in an interview with The Malaysian Insider.
On Thursday, Saifuddin left Umno for PKR, citing dissatisfaction with Putrajaya's handling of 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion "donation" deposited into prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal accounts.
Najib's brainchild 1MDB is currently sitting on a RM42 billion debt incurred in six years of operations.
The state-owned investment firm is currently under various probes for alleged financial improprieties.
