Umno can no longer do anything to Saifuddin since the former Deputy Higher Education Minister has joined PKR.
KUALA LUMPUR: If Umno Disciplinary Board member Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas can previously accept Saifuddin Abdullah attending any programme held by the Opposition, PKR for example, there’s no reason why he can’t leave Umno and join them, pointed out a political analyst in his latest blog posting. “Najmuddin did say that it was okay for Saifuddin to attend Opposition events since we also need to know what they are saying.”
“Najmuddin said that it was not wrong for Saifuddin to attend the Pakatan roundtable discussions recently as long as he didn’t criticize Umno.”
His latest take on Saifuddin was a complete about-turn, said Shahbudin Husin the analyst in his latest blog posting. “He has become the subject of laughter among the people.”
“What’s wrong in not only leaving Umno but announcing it publicly? Even when people get engaged, married or divorce, they don’t do so in secret. They announce it and even invite the media. That’s what Saifuddin did.”
It was also announced publicly not so long ago, in front of the media, that many of those who left Umno want to return, said the analyst. “If Najmuddin asks Uncle Google, he can list out all those who publicly announced that they were leaving Umno. Saifuddin isn’t the only one.”
Shahbudin was begging to differ with Najmuddin who felt that if Saifuddin wanted to leave Umno, he should have done so quietly, without fanfare in the media, and thereby allegedly shaming it and bringing it into public disrepute and contempt. “What’s the point of saying that Saifuddin cannot be forgiven? What’s there to forgive? He has left the party and isn’t coming back. He left with his dignity in tact and confidence. He didn’t run away with Umno’s assets and money.”
The analyst pointed out that Umno can no longer do anything to Saifuddin since the former Deputy Higher Education Minister and head of Prime Minister Najib’s Abdul Razak’s Global Movement of Moderates Foundation (GMM) has joined PKR. “He’s also not a rubbish leader as portrayed by Umno Secretary-General Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.”
Both Najmuddin and Adnan need to get their act together, said Shahbudin. “Saifuddin was once in the Umno Supreme Council and isn’t a nobody.”
