This is from The Malay Mail:

PETALING JAYA, Oct 21 — Malaysia is experiencing its first slump in foreign tourist arrivals in decades.
due to global economic slowdown and tourists having less money to spend
"....don’t recall when we have had it this bad,”
street protests including Bersih 4 and Red Shirt rally had negative impact on industry
protests definitely made them worried.
created impression of instability in the country

The only major country which saw a decline was Thailand which went from 309,666 in 2012 to 272,564, a drop of 11 per cent.
Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Aziz did not seem worried
dismissed claims that Bersih 4.0 and Red Shirt rallies scared away tourists
Instead, he said tourists from Western countries were used to street demonstrations
For them, this is normal and there is nothing to fear.
In fact, I want to thank the foreign media outlets for broadcasting the demonstrations every hour because they show that we are a democratic nation.
“In fact, we have probably saved billions of ringgit in free advertising to show we are a healthy democracy!” he said, eliciting laughter from other MPs.
“Don’t always think these things have a negative effect on the country.”

Sempoi Melayu pakai style Mafia Italy. Where was this? In Sarawak? Tak panas ke brader? All you need is some Michael Jackson style plastic surgery. Al Cappucino.
First lets do away with Minister Nazri's moronic comments. The Westerners are used to democratic street demonstrations in their Western countries - which are definitely more civilised.
In their countries you dont find one race making broad statements that they want to fight with another race or 'bathe them in blood' and stupid things like that. Their political leaders do not encourage their party members to participate in such racist demonstrations either.
Secondly Nazri should look at a Google Map (in your smart fone mesti ada brader, hang kena smart sikit). Malaysia is not in the west.
Our neighbours are Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar etc. Since we are an islamic country, we are also identified with Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan etc.
When they see or hear about street demonstartions in Malaysia their instant reaction is there is another revolution, racial fight, religious war, arab spring, coup de etat etc going on.The West does not yet see Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar etc as a very democratic neighbourhood.
If the global economic situation has an impact on tourism then how come Singapore had an increase of 18.3% tourist arrivals in the 1st quarter, China had a whopping 26.4% increase and even haze manufacturing Indonesia had a 21.1% growth?
We have had demonstrations (by the Reformasi clowns) since 1998. Malaysian tourism has grown all throughout those years. How do you explain that?
We have had the haze since 1997. Tourism has grown. How do you explain that?
There have been currency meltdowns (remember the Asia Financial Crisis? remember a guy called Mahathir Mohammad?) and global recessions. Yet our tourist arrivals have grown throughout. How do you explain that?
I think there are also other reasons for the poor tourist arrivals in Malaysia.
We never had a Red Shirt rally whose single focus was racial. They were clearly screaming about racial supremacy. And the moron gomen leaders were also encouraging them on. The West and aother countries are aware of such things. They are not stupid like you.
The fact that the Chinese Ambassador had to make public statements reassuring Chinese people inside Malaysia would have certainly been known in China as well. Never before has a Chinese Ambassador made remarks directly related to the racial situation in the country. Yet that was what happened. I don't know if Nazri is capable of understanding all this.

Cleanliness is a big thing with tourism. If the country is not clean, tourists will make negative remarks about the place. Kuala Lumpur is a mess. Even before the MRT project started KL was already in a mess.
The streets are not clean anymore. The potholes are getting worse. There are frequent road closures - which cause massive traffic jams and cause people to miss their flights and appointments. The moron gomen dont care.
Road closures are usually for events run by some crony who makes some money from the events. The more events the more money they make. The more road closures. All this has an impact on tourists.
The quality of our services are deteriorating. The locals cannot speak English. Worse even in their own language they cannot express themselves about a product or service the tourist may want to buy.
Our people seem to react differently towards different people. An arab gets different treatment, Mat Sallehs are treated different, Chinese are handled differently, Indians are handled differently etc etc. There is no professional treatment of all customers with the same service level. I think this situation is getting worse.
Then there is fleecing by our Taxi Drivers - who are now among the worst in the world. The airport taxi drivers also fleece the tourists. So the whole world knows about this.
Nazri also knows about the taxi business very well - for some time.
We also do not package our tourist products well enough. Tourist sites are unclean and poorly taken care of. This is because the local people have low hygiene standards. The gomen dont care to educate them properly.
"If you study biology can you go to heaven?' the retard ostazah asked the student. If you throw rubbish on the ground do you go to heaven?
I believe Penang is enjoying strong tourist arrivals, especially local tourists and Singapore visitors.
Like it or not, setuju tak setuju, suka tak suka there is a massive transformation going on in Penang. - http://syedsoutsidethebox.blogspot.my/
