Blogger Aspan says Pandikar was “silly” to demand a list of MPs who want the PM ousted.
KUALA LUMPUR: If the opposition can show that the majority of the MPs are against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, there’ll be no need for a no-confidence motion, says political analyst Aspan Alias in an attack on the Dewan Rakyat Speaker for insisting on a list of those supporting the motion.
“Najib should just go” if such a list is produced, he adds.
Aspan accuses Pandikar Amin Mulia of being “silly” and says, “It’s time for a motion of no confidence to be tabled against the Speaker himself to ensure that some sanity prevails in the House.
“Pandikar has been too defensive of the indefensible government leaders, including the Prime Minister.”
He says Pandikar thinks everyone in the country is stupid and “as such he has free will to put up his own rules and regulations.”
He accuses Pandikar of “not performing as a legitimate speaker,” saying it has become obvious that he is taking sides on the question of the no-confidence motion
He says a debate on the motion is necessary. “Then, we will know who is for and who is against the motion. The Speaker can’t simply come up with a counter-proposal.
“The Speaker must accept the proposal by the opposition. After sufficient debate, the MPs in attendance can cast their votes and only then will we know the numbers that are against Najib.”
He says it’s not the done thing for the Speaker to demand that he be first given a list of opposition MPs who are for the motion.
