BN big bully for attacking Nurul Izzah, says Azmin Ali

PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali described Barisan Nasional (BN) as the "big bully on the block" following the ruling coalition's incessant attacks against Nurul Izzah Anwar over the meeting with Sulu representative Jacel Kiram in the Philippines recently.

Azmin said the Lembah Pantai MP and the party’s Batu MP Chua Tian Chang, have explained they had not arranged for any such meeting, and that Jacel was invited by the hosts, which included the office of the vice-president of Philippines.

"No evidence has been produced by the government to controvert this explanation," said Azmin, who is also Selangor menteri besar.

 "Despite this, top government leaders and police leadership have spared no effort in vilifying Nurul Izzah, including making wild allegations of treasonous conduct. These politically motivated attacks are disgraceful and cowardly."

He said the latest move by BN federal lawmakers to take punitive action against Nurul Izzah through Parliament was both undemocratic and a gross abuse of the parliamentary process.

"If carried through, it is nothing short of the tyranny of the majority, showcasing once again BN as the big bully on the block."

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had earlier said that police would speak to Chua after taking Nurul Izzah's statement.

"We know he was also there with Nurul Izzah in the Philippines but whether he had also met Jacel, we will ask him that," Khalid told reporters in Ipoh today.

Nurul Izzah has been under severe criticism for taking pictures with Jacel, who is the daughter of self-proclaimed Sulu sultan Jamalul Kiram III, who was behind the 2013 Lahad Datu incursion that left scores of Malaysian security forces dead.

Khalid said Jacel was a spokesman for the Royal Sulu force and was also the spokesman during the Lahad Datu incident.

"We want to know why she (Nurul Izzah) was there because I need to explain to the families of my men who perished in the Sulu attack in Lahad Datu. So, she needs to answer."

Azmin, however, said the police should concentrate their efforts in answering the public's questions on the various financial scandals.

"This harassment must stop and BN leaders should instead answer the public's questions on the various national financial scandals gripping the country."
