The party, stressed the ousted Deputy Prime Minister, does not belong to just one person.
JOHOR BARU: Umno Deputy President and sacked Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin pledged to continue speaking up on alleged wrongdoing in government even if he was next sacked from the party. “I cannot bear the sin if I just keep quiet. I had to raise the 1MDB scandal and the RM2.6 billion deposited in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s personal accounts.”
He reiterated, during a 80 minute speech, that he had advised Najib to resign as 1MDB Advisor so that independent investigations could proceed on alleged wrongdoing but to no avail. “It’s as if we are living in a police state.”
“I have already been removed from the government for speaking up on the twin mega scandals and other issues.”
He added, in a report filed by Malaysiakini, that he has now been stopped from speaking at the Wanita, Youth and Puteri annual general meetings next month. “It’s not right to stop me from speaking at the meetings. I was elected by 100,000 delegates.”
“As former Umno President and Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has pointed out, Umno doesn’t belong to just one person.”
Muhyiddin was speaking at a gathering of some 1,000 Umno branch leaders from 106 branches in Pagoh, who were joined by MIC, MCA and Gerakan members in the parliamentary seat and division. They pledged their support for Muhyiddin through “thick and thin”. The Umno number two had asked them whether they were prepared to be represented in Parliament by an Independent member.
The Umno number two conceded that he has been left wondering whether whatever he was doing now, including speaking up, was against the party Constitution or was a crime. ” Najib, by not allowing me to speak at the Umno meetings of Wanita, Youth and Puteri, was breaking with tradition.”
“He’s afraid of what one man may say. Various institutions like the police, Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC), and the Attorney-General’s Chambers are being undermined. The party is also being undermined.”
Muhiyiddin noted that Najib had claimed that three million Umno members support him. He doubted that the members in Pagoh supported Najib. “Teluk Kemang and Puchong members have called on Najib to quit the party and government.”
