Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom today denied reports that two top officials of government charity foundation Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (Yapiem) had been asked to go on leave pending investigations into alleged graft.
“No such decision has been made, the news is not true,” Jamil Khir, who oversees Yapeim as minister in charge of Islamic affairs, told reporters today when asked to confirm the news reports.
Local television station TV3 on Monday night reported that Yapeim chairman Datuk Abdul Malek Awang Kechil and deputy chairman Datuk Siti Zaleha Hussin had gone on leave, following several allegations by a whistleblower group citing internal documents that showed alleged misappropriation of funds.
Malek and Zaleha were also alleged to have held several positions in Yapeim simultaneously, which allowed them to take home huge amounts in allowances.
