Mum: Stop the hate, they're just kids in love

The mother of one of the students depicted kissing and hugging in a video clip which has since gone viral believes that the matter should not be blown out of proportion.

“They are just kids in love. The incident occurred because there were people who were cheering them on,” she told Malaysiakini.

In the 15-second clip, the female student was seen running towards the male student who was on bended knee holding something believed to be a gift.

The couple was surrounded by other students at the time.

After hugging each other, the male student kissed the female student on her cheek.

The male student’s mother explained that his son was ‘proposing’ to the female student to be his date to the school dance.

The mother claimed that there were quarters who took the opportunity to worsen the situation by spreading the recording of the incident.

Students’ antics

She stressed that the duo are children who listen to their parents and whose actions are always monitored by their parents.

The couple, she said, has never gone out together alone.

“Both parents know about their relationship. That (kissing and hugging) was just a way for them to express themselves, nothing more than that.

“It’s the start of their relationship but, of course, both parents will ensure that such an incident would not recur," she said.

Bernama, meanwhile, reported that the Education Ministry will investigate the background of the video.

Its deputy minister P Kamalanathan said he was disappointed with the students’ antics although he had not seen the video.

Kamalanathan said, to date, the ministry was not yet able to identify the location of the video recording and hoped those with information could come forward to assist the ministry.
