Rafizi says the world sees the Anwar issue as a political one.
PETALING JAYA: International awareness about the Anwar Ibrahim case makes it difficult for Prime Minister Najib Razak to show credibility when he dismisses it as a personal issue instead of a political one, according to PKR Secretary-General Rafizi Ramli.
Speaking to reporters today, Rafizi said the world was becoming more and more aware that Anwar’s imprisonment was a result of a struggle for the country’s political leadership.
“It is becoming increasingly difficult for Najib to separate the Anwar issue as a personal issue,” he said.
PKR announced yesterday that the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention had found Anwar’s imprisonment to be illegal and had called on the government to free him.
Rafizi claimed that Anwar’s freedom was “intertwined” with solutions to problems facing Malaysians as a whole.
“In order for Malaysia to pull itself out of the crisis it is facing, the best solution is to have a strong alternative leader,” he said.
