30-year-old killed on the spot after ramming into stationery lorry.
PERAI: A DAP divisional leader was killed when his car crashed into a parked lorry on the Penang Bridge early Wednesday.
In the 12.10am accident, 30-year-old Nibong Tebal DAP secretary Khor Chong Meng died instantly, and police said the crash impact almost severed the victims head.
Khor was driving a Toyota Camry from the island to mainland when his car rammed into a stationary Daihatsu lorry at the 0.8 kilometer of the bridge.
Police believed the driver was speeding and lost control, causing the car to spin and crash into the lorry, belonging to Projek Penyelenggaraan Lebuhraya (PROPEL) Bhd, a highway maintenance company.
The workers were fixing the fencing on the divider of the bridge when the fatal accident took place.
Two workers meanwhile escaped with minor injuries during the incident and were treated at a nearby hospital.
Investigations revealed that construction workers had put up sufficient signboards to warn motorists about the roadworks on the bridge.
