UMNO AGM | Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed today there was more than one individual behind the RM2.6 billion donation transferred into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's accounts.
Asked if it was a donor or donors, Zahid replied: "Plural."
Zahid had previously said that he had met the "donor".
The issue cropped up after Najib, in an interview this week, made reference to “donors” when earlier there was only mention of a single donor, whom he said gave the RM2.6 billion on condition of anonymity.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) earlier said the funds came from a Middle Eastern source.
The anti-graft body is probing the matter for suspected gratification, and said it had met with the donor. It did not make reference to multiple donors.
Former prime minister and top Najib critic Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Monday said only a “crazy Arab” would part with RM2.6 billion for nothing.
Najib insists that he did not do anything illegal.
He said the funds were banked into his personal bank account on the donors' request. -Mkini
