Umno President and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak lives in fear of his party members after having done everything possible to stamp out opposition to his leadership and stripping them of their right to speak and raise major issues.
KUALA LUMPUR: It’s clear that thel Umno General Assembly this year has only one agenda, said a veteran newsman in his blog posting i.e. support party President and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. “Two divisive issues, the RM2.6 billion political ‘donation’ controversy and the RM42 billion 1MDB scandal, cannot be raised during the Assembly.”
“So, this year, the Assembly is a gathering of hypocrites. They have no conscience and no principles. All of them are either impotent or frigid.”
However, even the castrated goat will fight back if push comes to shove, warned former New Straits Group Editor-in-Chief Kadir Jasin, in holding out hope. “Although Najib has strengthened his position in the party and government, he approaches the Annual General Assembly this year in fear.”
“Since several months, he has shamelessly used all political avenues and legislative and executive channels, to amass even more power and stamp out all dissent against his rule. He has sacked opponents in the party. He has also removed Deputy Umno President and Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin from the Cabinet along with Umno Vice-President Shafie Apdal from Sabah who was a Federal Minister.”
Kadir, in delving into recent history, also recalled that Najib had removed those who opposed him in the civil service and replaced them with others from his camp. “However, it cannot be denied that he lives mostly in fear of the party members because this year sees the most stage-managed Umno General Assembly in the party’s history.”
Umno being weak and the Barisan Nasional (BN) components parties rejected by non-Malays except in Sarawak, continued Kadir, Najib has been forced to turn to PAS for more Malay support but that party too has more than its fair share of troubles, wracked by desertions after the ulama seized control of the party in recent elections. “Also, not everyone in PAS is thrilled about working with Umno.”
“Yet, Najib claimed during an interview with the mainstream media that PAS was increasingly coming around to the idea of working together with Umno in GE14.”
Elsewhere, said the veteran newsman, Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin has conceded that the people are suffering in the wake of subsidies being removed and prices increasing in the market. “He said the people can no longer bear the burden of increasing prices in the market and pleaded that government departments act to prevent further price increases. It’s a fact that Najib’s Economic Transformation Plans and his fiscal and market policies have send prices up in the market.”
“Najib appears not to care. He prefers to make the people suffer although incurring their curses. What’s important to him is compliance with International Monetary Fund (IMF) prescriptions,” summed up Kadir. “
